HIGH-QUALITY PRESCHOOL IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD

Are you looking for a local daycare with high-quality teachers and a curriculum that’s tailored for your child’s individual needs? Look no further than KCC’s Early Learning Academy!

The goal of KCC’s Early Learning Academy is to ensure that children and families are kindergarten-ready upon completion of the program.  Kindergarten-readiness includes a child’s developmental domains (social-emotional, physical, language, cognitive, literacy, mathematics), an individualized transition plan, and family readiness for kindergarten (case management, assistance with the application process, access to supportive services, etc.).

DELAWARE STARS

KCC participates in Delaware Stars, the state’s Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS) administered by The Delaware Department of Education, Office of Early Learning (OEL).  KCC is currently a 4 Star program.

  • Individualized Education: Each child at the ELA has an individualized plan to achieve developmental milestones.  To meet the needs of children with special needs, KCC partners with organizations such as Easter Seals to offer cognitive behavioral therapy on-site for those children.  In addition, the ELA accommodates children with special needs by providing more staffing for those classrooms and by ensuring that teachers receive professional development regarding adapting instruction for those with special needs.
  • Evidence-Based Curricula and Assessments: The ELA uses curricula and assessments aligned with national best practices.  For early learning, we use the Creative Curriculum and Teaching Strategies GOLD assessments©, as well as aligning with Head Start standards.
  • Early Childhood Assistance Program: The ECAP is Delaware’s state-funded pre-kindergarten system.  KCC became an ECAP program in 2020, and through this program we receive technical assistance, professional development, rigorous reporting requirements, and guidance on implementing Head Start standards in pre-k classrooms.  Although ECAP guidelines apply to our pre-k youth, KCC applies the high-quality instructional practices and program standards from ECAP through all our programs.

The ELA is open daily from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and serves breakfast, lunch, and snack through the USDA’s Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).  The holistic services offered by the ELA are designed to leverage community partnerships to support family well-being and promote children’s learning and development.
